Buying photos from the Harrow Photo Collection is very simple. Using the index you can search for photos and see whether they are available for sale yet. Initially we are selling the photos which have been scanned as they are in archival slips and filed for easy access. We will then start to offer the other photos in the collection. If you would like to buy a photo which is not yet marked as for sale, then please contact us and we can sort that out.
Photos for sale are marked as such in the index ('For Sale'). Those which have been sold are marked as such ('Sold').
To buy a photo, contact us with the reference number or other details and we will arrange the sale. Currently we can take payment by cheque / cash / paypal; online credit card transactions will come soon.
Pricing
The price of the photos is based on its size and its importance (see below).
Rare: Amongst the most unique photos in the collection, of great historical interest.
Important: Known people, statesmen, sportsmen, members of the aristocracy etc.
Collectable: Photos of interest to collectors.
Standard: The majority of the collection - of family importance, but not national importance.
Some restoration work needed: The photo is usable, but only with restorative work to the photo.
Photos needing major restoration or which do not appear to be usable are not placed for sale - they are available if you want them, but they are sold as they are at cost value and the purchaser will be responsible for restoration to the standard they require.
We are working to list the importance and size against each photo in the index so that we can list its price. At present we know that those which have been scanned are 4x6, however others are not yet know, as they are sorted out we will list their size and importance - until then. please contact us to determine the price of specific photos.
Guide to categories:
Standard - Historic photo of interest to the family / a small number of people. Not relating to hobbies / interests / or of national or international importance. Person not well known.
Collectable - Historic photo of interest to a variety of people / relating to hobby / interest. May include sporting teams / organisations / clubs / schools / other local groups. Not including an individual or organisation / team of national / international interest or a person who is well known.
Important - Historic photo of interest and importance. Will include individuals who are well known / famous, or of national interest and importance. Will include those who are famous generally, or within their field. May include teams or organisations of note, such as a team winning a national championship etc. May include teams / organisations or group photos where one member is otherwise of 'importance'.
Rare - Historic photo of great significance. will include individuals who are of significant national interest, or of international interest. Likely to include monarchs / country leaders / etc. Please note that prices for this category are 'from' the price shown.
N.B. There are one or two very special photos which are priced individually - they will always be listed as 'contact for details'. We will also be actively offering some of the images to museums / galleries - so if you are interested in some of the more special photos, move fast!
